Standing to epistemically blame

چکیده

A plausible condition on having the standing to blame someone is that target of blame's wrongdoing must in some sense be your “business”—the wrong harm or affect you, others close you. This known as business blame. Many cases epistemic discussed literature do not obviously involve examples harming affecting another. As such, enough has been said about how an individual's failing can really count another person's business. In this paper, I deploy a relationship-based account clarify conditions under which met domain. The basic idea one another's virtue way it impairs their relationship.

Epistemically Robust Strategy Subsets

We define a concept of epistemic robustness in the context of an epistemic model of a finite normal-form game where a player type corresponds to a belief over the profiles of opponent strategies and types. A Cartesian product X of pure-strategy subsets is epistemically robust if there is a Cartesian product Y of player type subsets with X as the associated set of best reply profiles such that t...

Epistemically Stable Strategy Sets

This paper provides a definition of epistemic stability of sets of strategy profiles, and uses it to characterize variants of curb sets in finite games, including the set of rationalizable strategies and minimal curb sets.

The epistemically virtuous clinician.

Today, modern Western medicine is facing a quality-of-care crisis that is undermining the patient-physician relationship. In this paper, a notion of the epistemically virtuous clinician is proposed in terms of both the reliabilist and responsibilist versions of virtue epistemology, in order to help address this crisis. To that end, a clinical case study from the literature is first reconstructe...

Epistemically Active Adaptive User Interfaces

An accurate model of the user is one of the most important factors impacting the success of adaptive user interfaces. However, the input information from the user may not be sufficient for construction of accurate user models. We propose epistemically active adaptive user interfaces that initiate subtle interactions with the user in order to collect new information about the user’s state based ...

Learning to Blame

Localizing type errors is challenging in languages with global type inference, as the type checker must make assumptions about what the programmer intended to do. We introduce N, a data-driven approach to error localization based on supervised learning. N analyzes a large corpus of training data — pairs of ill-typed programs and their “xed” versions — to automatically learn a model of wh...
